Gandhidham Maitri Mandal was established in 1955 by the founder of Gandhidham Kandla Complex Bhai Pratap Dialdas, since then Gandhidham Maitri Mandal has been the backbone of the Socio Educational and Cultural structure of Gandhidham. It caters mainly to the needs of the Sindhis who migrated from Pakistan and looks after the education &
culture of the society. Dada Dukhayal, Krishna K. Bhambhani, the Maitri parivar along with a group of devoted workers is doing yeoman's service to the society. Arts college was started in 1963 and Science faculty was added in the year of 1967. Mandal started Polytechnic in 1952 which was called in the beginning as Vocational Training Center, it ran classes for Mistri and Overseer Course for 1 year. Hundreds and Hundreds of young men availed of this opportunity to get qualified and got job here in Gandhidham, as construction of Twin Township was in full swing under the batch eminent engineers who continued this work of construction on war footing. Kutch also required qualified mistries, overseer and engineers; Maitri Mandal under the able leadership of Bhai Pratap, Kavi Dukhayalji and Principal Shri Hari Daryani left no stone unturned to cater the needs of this underdeveloped part of the country. Their efforts bore fruits and with the active help of Shri Premjibhai, two years course and subsequently three years diploma course in civil engineering were started in 1961-62 and ultimately in 1967 Mandal felt the need of its developing township and decided to add Electrical and Mechanical courses. In 1968, The Gandhidham Collegiate Board took on its shoulders this herculean task of upgrading the colleges and the polytechnic and has done wonderful work in its advancement. It is really a boon for the whole of Kutch. Kaka Prabhudas Tolani and his family's contribution in higher education field is laudable.
